Top Gun Inspired Scene Recreation – VFX Compositing

Sharing a recent project done for my VFX Compositing class assignment, where the goal was to practice multi-pass compositing workflows using Nuke.

I recreated a shot inspired by one of my favorite films, Top Gun, focusing on achieving cinematic lighting and realistic integration.

Workflow and Tools:

3D assets rendered in Maya (multi-pass EXRs)

Composited in Nuke using a full multi-pass setup (diffuse, specular, reflection, lighting, etc.)

Model credits go to the respective creators (thanks for providing amazing assets!).

Initially, I wanted to add a sci-fi touch to the airplane, but due to a tight deadline, I decided to stick with a more realistic look to focus on nailing the composition and integration.

This project really helped sharpen my understanding of multi-pass workflows and fine-tuning CG elements into live-action-style shots.
