Magical Portal - Particle FX

After 3 months of diving deep into Houdini, I’m excited to finally share my first project—a magical portal particle effect, created as part of the end-of-semester showcase at Humber College.

What started as an exploration of particles grew into a full scene built around storytelling. I wanted the effect to feel like it belonged in a world, not just as a standalone simulation. The magical particle portal was brought to life using a blend of Houdini particle simulations and volumes, while the dust spreading on the ground was achieved by sourcing pyro from particles. The entire scene was lit and rendered in Karma XPU.

Super grateful to my friends, classmates, and professors who helped me troubleshoot and push through the challenges along the way.
